At Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, we offer a full range of rehabilitative services for cardiac patients. If you’ve had a recent heart attack, bypass surgery or valve replacement surgery, you can benefit from our expert follow-up care.

One of only three cardiac rehab facilities in Delaware, we’re now in our 20th year of serving local cardiac patients. Over the years, we’ve developed a very experienced staff, with each member certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

Cardiac rehabilitation typically involves:

• Aerobic-type exercise (walking or using the stationary bicycle)

• Upper-body exercises to improve each patient’s cardiovascular and muscular endurance

• Flexibility exercises

• Close monitoring using the latest in lightweight telemetry to pick up any irregularities in heartbeat or blood pressure

Along with the exercises, we:

• Teach patients ways to make lifestyle modifications to their diets and exercise routines

• Educate patients about prescribed medications, the importance of taking them as directed and any possible side effects

• Work toward a goal of reducing the risk factors for coronary heart disease: high cholesterol, high blood pressure and a sedentary lifestyle

Upon a physician’s referral, a patient participates in the cardiac program three times a week, for a maximum of 12 weeks. Most insurance plans cover this period, and we can work with patients to determine what’s covered by their plan.

During the rehabilitation process, we communicate closely with the patient’s referring physician.
